About Snowbird Inn

The Snowbird Inn has been an institution at Mount Hotham since its inception. Built in 1970 by the Schumann family the building was first used not only for traditional European lodge style accommodation but housed the ski hire, ski boutique and lift ticket office. In the 80’s the Summit end of the building was converted to the Summit Bar and in the late 80’s and 90’s attracted many a touring artist playing live and loud to the wee hours of the morning. The Snowbird’s unique location at the base of the Summit Ski Run directly abutting the Great Alpine Road has proven to be the place to be for over 30 years.

In the Summer of 2004/2005 Snowman Property Management Pty Ltd purchased the lease of the Snowbird Inn with the aim of turning the building into comfortable, clean and affordable bunk style accommodation for larger self interest groups and predominantly secondary students. Throughout the 2005 and 2006 snow seasons over 100 secondary school groups enjoyed the convenient location, helpful staff, terrific meals and clean and comfortable accommodation on offer with 95 per cent of those groups returning each year.

The Snowbird's motel rooms have been converted to simple bunk style accommodation not dissimilar to a traditional school camp There is 25 rooms ranging from 4 to 10 share.
Each room has its own private ensuite and some offer a shared balcony. There are 7 rooms on the lower level of the complex which face south-west, most of them with alpine sunset views to Mount Buller and beyond. The remaining 17 rooms are on the upper level and located on either side of the building with most offering delightful views of the Victorian Alps.

Bedding configurations differ from room to room and consist of single bunk beds only in some rooms, and a combination of single bunk beds and trilogy style bunk beds with double bed below and single bunk bed above.

Each room offers:

* Colour TV and DVD player (No Commercial TV available)
* Central Heating
